The Cat Flipped

Uncategorized Aug 09, 2020

We have a fairly lazy, obese black and white cat named Sherlock. His favorite thing in the world is belly rubs. The other day, while chasing a fly, he started jumping and flipping in the air to catch the fly, which he catches and eats.

Why am I describing this gruesome scene to you?

Metaphorically speaking, most of us are like the cat. We have goals and ambitions, but we put them on pause for the most part. As I watched this usually lazy cat flip, I realized there were three things that had come together to transform him from a lazy cat to one that is fully using his abilities in that moment.

  1. A clear, compelling goal. In this case, the fly.
  2. A deadline. The fly is going away.
  3. An environment free from constraints

Why is this relevant? I see so many people not using these three things to their full advantage. What I want to do is encourage you is go after your dreams. Build a compelling deadline, no more waiting. Shape for yourself an environment that is going to help you achieve those goals.

Hey, everyone. So, the cat flipped. That's the title of my Go Life today. The cat flipped. We have a cat, name is Sherlock, black and white, well-rounded, fat. Obese, is how I would classify the cat. Normally, it's very lazy. Normally, just what you see him is hanging around. He loves belly rubs. That's his favorite, absolute favorite thing.

The other day, he did something incredible. Suddenly, he just came up and he flipped. By flip, I mean vertical jump in the air, a somersault, and then down and then ran somewhere. I was like, "What's going on? Why is this cat doing flips?" Well, the cat was chasing a fly. There was a fly in the house and very soon, very successfully, he went, he did all these flips, climbed up, caught it, killed it, ate it.

Why am I describing this gruesome scene to you? Right? At that moment it struck me that this is so much of a metaphor or, I guess that's the right term? This is so much the case for all of us, where we are all like the cat. We are kind of hanging out, enjoying our day, lazing around. We have some goals and ambitions, but they are just kind of on pause. As this cat did the flip, Sherlock, I realized that there were three things that had come together to transform him from a lazy cat, to just someone who's using all of their abilities, all together, in that moment.

These were the three things. There was the fly, which was a clear, compelling goal. I'm going to eat this fly. There was a deadline. This fly is going to go away. It's going to fly away. It's a fly after all and there'll be nothing left. And the environment. He was free from the constraints. He could like go jump, flip, climb on the couch to get to the thing, climb up the window. All these things were available to enable him to get to the target goal.

Why is that relevant to you? It's because I see a lot of people in the group who are saying, "Yep, one day I'll be a product manager." There's so many people who are in a career and they're kind of stuck and they're saying, "You know, maybe in the next job, I'll move faster through my career. Maybe I'll be working for this dream company, and some things will change."

But you're not using these three things. You're not using these three things to your advantage. You don't have a clear, compelling goal, which you can look at and be inspired by right now. Some of you do. You have dreams of working for a great company as a awesome product manager, or being at a certain stage in your career, but you have no deadlines. You haven't set a date by which you're saying, "That's it. This is the date by which I burn the boats and I go after my dream." You're not setting up the right environment. You don't have a group of peers who holds you accountable. You're not surrounded by people who are either achieving the dream, or in the same path as you. By the way, being part of Slack groups and Facebook group, doesn't count. Just because you have all these people exchanging messages, that doesn't matter at all. What you need is a environment where people are truly vested in each other's interest.

What I want to encourage you to do is whether you join one of the Intentional Product Manager programs, or go find another way, go do it. Go after your dreams. Create the right vision of where you want to go. Build a compelling deadline. Not tomorrow, but today. You're not going to go one more single day without having a clear plan to achieve your dreams. You're going to go after it right now, not wait anymore.

Last but not least, you're going to build up the environment that is going to help you get there, because none of us get to our goals on our own. If you want to be the next awesome product manager, the next awesome entrepreneur, you want to move faster in your career, now's the time for you to act. Not tomorrow, not day after, but now.

One action. Set up a BREAKTHROUGH SESSION with me, right now. All you have to do, go to ShobhitChugh.com/apply. Find some time to chat with me. We're going to get together and talk through your career challenges, build a plan to help you achieve those, and if I am part of the plan, I can help you achieve those. I'll show you how, else I'll direct you to other people, other resources that might be more useful. It's funny, there's a lot of people who do this call with me and some of them enroll. Some of them don't, but everybody in the end, pretty much everyone says, "Thank you, for doing this call. I got so much clarity just from that session itself, that even though I feel I'm not ready right now, or I'm not able to invest at the level I need to to work with you, I'm glad I did the call."

But enough about the call. Even if you don't do it, remember these three things: go after your dreams. You're part of this community for a reason. You just didn't join this group randomly. Well, some people did to promote other things, and I banned them and kick them out. But you joined this group for a reason. Go for your dreams, and I look forward to supporting you any way I can.

I'll talk to y'all very soon.
